Looking NW towards St. Ignace Island.

This morning we weighed anchor at 7:30, motored clear of Agate Island and hoisted the sails. Mostly running or on a broad reach until ~10:00 when the wind slacked off. Motored for about half an hour then started sailing again. Today we covered 22 nm; south of St. Ignace Island and Simpson Island, then up Wilson Channel to Rossport on the mainland. We arrived at 2:00 PM and anchored because the dock was full. Amenities at Rossport Harbour marina include fuel, pump-out, water, electricity, some basic groceries, showers & laundry, bait & tackle, and pay telephone. For dinner we rowed ashore and walked to the Serendipity Gardens Cafe which was expensive but good (up the hill and to the right).

Rossport is close to the site where Gunilda, a beautiful 197 foot yacht, ran into a shoal and sank in 1911. There were no lives lost when she sank, but two men lost their lives diving on the wreck in 1970 and 1988. The National Film Board of Canada released a 72 minute feature film, "Drowning in Dreams", about Gunilda in 1997.
