Island Song
 We
bought an old single engine boat, the mechanic says needs thousands of
dollars of work. So time to set off on a hundred mile trip up Puget
Sound and thru the San Juan Islands.....or a three hour tour if the
mechanic is right! Lake

Song's upper helm, or flybridge. We had beautiful weather, sunny and
mostly calm, so I spent the trip up here. Jeff spends a lot of time in
the engine room, monitoring the engine and replacing a bilge pump. |
 After
heading north 46 nautical miles via Rosario Strait, we anchor in Echo
Bay, Sucia Island. Our second night. This is our view of Mt Baker. |

 After
motoring up Admiralty Inlet, across Oak Bay and Port Townsend, we spot Mount
Baker in the distance. |

 The
next day we head north towards the San Juan Islands and are passed by
the Victoria Clipper IV. (Fast catamaran ferry that runs daily between
Victoria and Seattle.) |
 We
are here - in the eastern end of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with
Whidbey Island to starboard.No chartplotter so I am navigating with paper charts ... old school! It was fun. |
 The
next morning it's calm - a large fog bank rolls in and chases us out of
Echo Bay. We scoot around the SE side of Alden Bank and motor north to
our home port of Blaine. The old single engine trawler did well! |
