At the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918 an armistice was signed in a railroad car parked in a French forest near the front lines. The terms of the agreement called for the cessation of fighting along the Western Front of World War I.

Today Canada’s Remembrance Day ceremonies mark the 100-year anniversary of the First World War armistice.
